How I help those both in the LDS faith and those questioning and/or leaving it

I often get asked how am I able to work with both active LDS members and those who are questioning and/or leaving, especially as someone who is currently active in the church themselves.

And I get it, it feels like a therapist can’t hold space for two things that rest on complete opposite sides of the spectrum. So here’s what I want you to know.

❋ I meet you where you're at

Your journey is uniquely yours, whether your happy in the church or feel hurt and harmed by it I will meet you where you are in that journey.

❋ I'm not here to change your mind

Since this journey is uniquely yours I’m not here to change your mind about it. I don’t have a hidden agenda on where I want you to end up by the end of this journey, the ending is yours to choose.

❋ I can offer you a completely judgment free space

I believe religion is a deeply personal choice and while my choice may be different than yours I offer no judgment with where you stand in regards to the church and religion as a whole.

❋ I've had my own doubts and questions too

My own religious journey has not been without my own doubts and questions. Because of this I can understand why many choose to leave and I understand the harm the church can cause.

My own belief system within the LDS framework

I do not agree with how some things have been and continue to be handled within the church, but while there are things I disagree with I do remain strong in my own faith. The thing I feel strongest about is the importance of treating every single person with love and respect and the best way I can do that is by creating a space that allows you to explore everything without fear of judgment or harm.

In this space you are allowed to be angry at the church, at the policies, at the doctrine, and even at God. You are allowed to question and to doubt. You are allowed to exist with every emotion you have and not worry about offending me. I have the ability and capacity to make space for it all, without bias.

I have helped many ex-members work through their complicated feelings about the church and help them to find what really lights them up inside and helps them to feel connected with thsemselves.

I have also helped many current members work through complicated feelings about the church and find ways to reconnect with it in a way that felt safe and right for them.

Whatever your journey is you don’t have to navigate it alone.
